A brief introduction to the 56 Chen Taijiquan routine
Conception, style and content, historical evolution and development, and characteristics and principles
The 56 Chen routine is unique in its composition in that it combines the traditional routines of Yi Lu (First Form) and Er Lu (Second Form), sometimes referred to as Cannon Fist (炮捶, Pào Chuí). It was compiled by Professor Kan Gui Xiang. The routine is also unique in the fact that unlike the traditional routine it offers more symmetry which allows for a more balanced and comprehensive approach that will challenge the practitioner. Movements and postures such as The Buddha’s Warrior Pounds the Mortar, Single Whip, Cover Hands and Strike are all performed both left and right helping to promote a balanced development of the body.
